About the role

Backward Classes Welfare Department (BCWD), Government of Karnataka, invites online applications for Post-Matric Scholarships for the academic year 2026-27. The scheme assists backward classes students enrolled in pre-university, ITI, polytechnic, undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional degree courses across government, aided, and recognized unaided institutions within Karnataka. Around 1.5 lakh eligible students receive financial assistance each year under maintenance allowance, fee concessions, and hostel subsidies. Candidates belonging to Category-1 must have an annual family income under ₹2.5 lakh, while those under Category-2A, 2B, 3A, and 3B must have an annual income not exceeding ₹1 lakh. Applications are processed through the unified State Scholarship Portal (SSP). Students who have secured admission for the current academic session and have their Aadhaar seeded with an active bank account should register their claims before the December deadline to prevent payment delays.

Highlights

  • Covers maintenance allowance and course fee reimbursement for eligible BC students
  • Income ceiling of ₹2.5 lakh for Category-1 and ₹1.0 lakh for 2A, 2B, 3A, and 3B

Frequently asked questions

Can day scholars also apply for Karnataka BCWD post-matric assistance?

Yes. Both day scholars and students staying in recognized private or college hostels can apply. The maintenance allowance slab differs between hostellers and day scholars based on course category and department norms.

Is an Aadhaar-linked bank account compulsory for this scholarship?

Yes. Payment is released exclusively via Aadhaar-based Direct Benefit Transfer. Your bank account must be actively seeded with NPCI; accounts without Aadhaar linkage fail the automated disbursement process.

Can students who failed their previous year examination receive this scholarship?

Students promoted to the subsequent year can apply. Those repeating an entire academic year in the same class due to failure or detention are not eligible for renewal benefits for that repeated year.

What documents are required to enter the application online?

You need your Aadhaar card, SATS ID or college registration number, Revenue Department RD numbers for caste and income certificates, fee receipt, and details of your active bank account.

Can I claim another government scholarship along with the BCWD scheme?

No. Students cannot draw maintenance allowance or fee reimbursements from two government scholarship programs simultaneously for the same academic year. Double claims lead to cancellation and recovery.
