• Kopineshwar Mandir is a major Hindu temple located near the edge of Masunda Lake in central Thane.
• Shilahara dynasty rulers originally erected the temple around the eleventh century, and the Peshwa general Chimaji Appa renovated its stone complex in the 1760s.
• The central sanctum houses a Shiva lingam measuring roughly five feet in diameter and four feet in height, regarded as one of the largest in Maharashtra.
• Subsidiary shrines dedicated to Brahma, Hanuman, and Kalika surround the inner courtyard, along with a massive stone Nandi figure facing the main deity.
• Narrow bazaar lanes of Jambli Naka crowd around the outer gates, where vendors sell marigold garlands and puja offerings.
• Visiting between November and February avoids the intense heat.
• Temple doors open daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM, with no admission fee.
