Monumental Mughal garden tomb in Nizamuddin East

• Humayun's Tomb is a grand garden tomb commissioned in 1558 by the Mughal emperor Humayun's chief consort, Empress Bega Begum, and completed in 1572.
• Built as the first major garden tomb on the Indian subcontinent, its Persian-influenced design by architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyas directly inspired the later construction of the Taj Mahal.
• The main mausoleum rises from an expansive terrace built of red sandstone and white marble, housing Humayun's cenotaph beneath a double-layered dome alongside burial vaults of other Mughal royalty.
• The site features a restored charbagh quadrilateral layout with gravity-fed water channels, pathways, and fruit trees, along with the adjacent sixteenth-century tomb complex of Isa Khan.
• The complex opens daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with November to March offering the mildest weather for walking outdoors.
