Historic Buddhist stupa and pilgrimage site

• Deekshabhoomi is a major Buddhist pilgrimage center marked by a 120-foot-high central dome stupa.
• Ambedkar formally embraced Buddhism here alongside approximately 600,000 followers on October 14, 1956.
• Visitors can step inside the massive circular prayer hall, which holds a bronze statue of the Buddha, decorative woodwork, and display cases chronicling Ambedkar's life.
• Outside the main structure stands a Bodhi tree grown from a sapling brought from Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka.
• The grounds fill with pilgrims and visitors year-round, but the largest crowds gather on Ashok Vijaya Dashami for the annual Dhammachakra Pravartan Day.
• October to March brings pleasant weather for walking the paved outdoor perimeter.
• The monument opens daily around 5:00 AM and closes at 8:00 PM, with no entrance fee required.
