Hematuria or Blood in the Urine is a scary symptom for any patient at any age. Although it may be common after a urological surgery, spontaneous bleeding can be an indication of a malignancy in the urinary tract, stone or infection. Mild short lasting reddish colouration may be dealt with by elective investigations such as Ultrasound, CT and/or Urine culture and cytology, but severe and persistent hematuria may need Cystocopy (Endoscopic visualisation of the bladder) alongwith clot evacuation and fulguration of the bleeder and or irrigation and bladder washes.
