🏆 A Remarkable Case, An Extraordinary Recovery & A Proud Moment I am delighted to share that Dr. Vaishnavi, an MBBS student from Thane, presented a remarkable case from my neurosurgical practice at the Annual Conference of the Neurotrauma Society of India 2026 in Hyderabad, and was awarded the First Prize for Oral Poster Presentation. “The Visual Paradox: Complete Recovery from Blindness Following a Trans-Cranial Penetrating Brain Injury” The case involved a patient who sustained a severe transcranial bullet injury, with the bullet travelling from the left side to the right side of the brain and traversing the optic radiations, resulting in complete loss of vision. The patient was brought to the hospital in the middle of the night and underwent emergency bilateral craniectomy and surgical retrieval of the bullet. What followed was an extraordinary journey of recovery. Over the next 1.5 years, the patient gradually regained her vision and eventually made a complete visual recovery. Today, 5 years after the surgery, she continues to do remarkably well, with no neurological deficits. It is deeply gratifying to see this extraordinary clinical journey presented at a national scientific forum and receive the First Prize.
