• Spread over nearly 185 acres, Allen Forest Zoo was carved out of natural woodland originally conserved by British botanist Sir George Allen.
• Unlike conventional urban menageries with cramped concrete pens, animal quarters here are built straight into the indigenous forest around a natural rainwater lake.
• Walking paths wind through thick canopies where leopards, Asiatic lions, swamp deer, and rhinos occupy large moated territories.
• Migratory waterfowl use the central lake throughout winter.
• An aquarium, a nocturnal house, and a narrow-gauge toy train run within the boundaries.
• The most pleasant months to visit are November through February when midday temperatures drop.
• The zoo welcomes visitors from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM Tuesday through Sunday, remaining closed on Mondays.
• Modest entry fees apply at the ticket counter.
