If your child tests positive for H1N1 influenza (swine flu), follow the treating doctor’s advice carefully and take steps to protect your family and community. Contact and respiratory isolation can help reduce transmission: ✅ Keep the child at home and away from school, daycare, visitors, and crowded places until advised by the doctor. ✅ Ideally, keep the child in a separate, well-ventilated room and limit close contact—especially with infants, older adults, pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses. ✅ The caregiver should wear a well-fitting mask when close to the child. The child may also wear a mask if medically suitable and able to do so safely. ✅ Wash hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. ✅ Do not share utensils, towels, bedding, toys, or personal items. Clean frequently touched surfaces regularly. ✅ Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the elbow, and dispose of tissues safely. ✅ Take prescribed medicines exactly as directed.
