• Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II began constructing the City Palace in 1727 after shifting his capital from Amber to his planned city.
• Descendants of the royal family still reside in the private Chandra Mahal section of the property.
• The public complex centers on several open courtyards containing administrative halls, pavilions, and exhibition rooms.
• Mubarak Mahal, a carved marble and sandstone reception pavilion, exhibits historical garments and Kashmiri shawls.
• Nearby, the Pritam Niwas Chowk courtyard holds four brass-fitted doorways painted with motifs of peacocks, lotus flowers, and green leaves to represent four seasons.
• The Diwan-i-Khas courtyard contains two sterling silver vessels cast from melted coins, each measuring over five feet tall.
• Plan visits between October and March during cooler weather.
• The palace opens daily from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
