• The current structure dates to 1565, rebuilt by King Naranarayan of the Koch dynasty after an earlier medieval temple suffered destruction.
• Inside the main sanctum, visitors find no idol; worship centers on a natural stone fissure fed by an underground spring.
• The temple compound includes smaller shrines dedicated to the ten Mahavidyas, along with traditional beehive-shaped shikhara architecture typical of Assam.
• Thousands gather here during the annual Ambubachi Mela in June, though the best months to walk the stone paths comfortably are October through March.
• Gates usually open at 5:30 AM, close briefly in the early afternoon for offerings, and reopen until sunset.
