Tennis elbow, medically known as Lateral Epicondylitis, is one of the most common musculoskeletal conditions affecting the elbow. Despite its name, only a small percentage of people who develop tennis elbow actually play tennis. It is an overuse injury caused by repetitive movements of the wrist and forearm, leading to pain and tenderness on the outer side of the elbow. Tennis elbow commonly affects individuals between the ages of 30 and 55 years and is seen in people whose jobs or hobbies involve repetitive gripping, lifting, twisting, or wrist extension. Anatomy of the Elbow The elbow is a hinge joint formed by three bones: Humerus (upper arm bone) Radius (forearm bone) Ulna (forearm bone) On the outside of the elbow is a bony prominence called the lateral epicondyle. Several forearm muscles responsible for extending the wrist and fingers originate from this area. The most commonly affected tendon in tennis elbow is the: Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis (ECRB) tendon.
