Historic Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Clement Town

• Located in Clement Town south of the main city, Mindrolling stands among the largest Nyingma Buddhist centres built outside Tibet.
• Khochhen Rinpoche re-established the complex in 1965 following the flight of Tibetan monks into northern India.
• Its most visible structure is the Great Stupa, erected in 2002 to a height of 185 feet, with shrine rooms decorated by traditional Tibetan wall murals depicting the life of Gautama Buddha.
• Next to the main temple sits an outdoor golden Buddha statue standing over 100 feet tall against the Himalayan foothills.
• Visitors walk past manicured gardens, active prayer halls, and a community bazaar selling Tibetan snacks and crafts.
• October to March provides comfortable weather for touring the open courtyards.
• Entry to the monastery grounds is free, with visiting hours between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM, though shrine rooms follow shorter afternoon schedules.
