• Bhojtal is a massive fresh water reservoir lying on the western edge of the city.
• Paramara King Raja Bhoj commissioned the water body in the eleventh century by raising an earthen dam across the Kolans River.
• It supplies nearly a third of Bhopal's daily municipal drinking water and supports hundreds of wetland plant and bird species.
• Visitors head to the Madhya Pradesh Tourism boat club near Kamla Park to rent paddle boats, motor boats, or cruise boats across the water.
• A wide paved promenade along VIP Road offers long stretches to sit and watch the sunset across the open surface.
• October through March remains the best window to visit, when temperatures drop and migratory birds arrive from central Asia.
• Access along the shore and promenade is free throughout the day and evening.
