Historic 240-acre botanical garden and glass house

• Lalbagh is an urban botanical reserve spanning 240 acres south of the city center.
• Hyder Ali commissioned the garden in 1760, and his son Tipu Sultan introduced foreign horticultural species from Persia and South Africa before British botanists later expanded the grounds.
• Its central landmark, a cast-iron Glass House modeled on London's Crystal Palace, opened in 1889 to host horticultural exhibits.
• Inside the park perimeter, visitors can see an ancient peninsular gneiss rock formation dating back three billion years, an artificial lake with bird-watching walkways, and centuries-old trees with descriptive plaques.
• Morning walks between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM see free pedestrian entry, while daytime visits cost thirty rupees per adult.
• November through February brings mild weather, coinciding with the biannual flower shows held around Republic Day in late January.
