Famous stone lattice windows from Gujarat Sultanate

• Built in 1573 during the final year of the Gujarat Sultanate, this modest sandstone mosque sits near the busy Lal Darwaja traffic junction in central Ahmedabad.
• Sidi Saiyyed, a nobleman of Habshi descent serving Sultan Muzaffar Shah III, commissioned the structure.
• The main draw is the intricate stone tracery on the arched jali windows, particularly the famous carved motif of a tree with intertwining branches, foliage, and palm fronds.
• That specific carving later served as the design basis for the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad logo.
• Unlike massive Friday congregational mosques, the hall is compact, with ten carved semicircular stone screens along the rear and side bays.
• October to March brings pleasant temperatures for viewing the facade.
• The mosque is active for daily Islamic prayers, open from sunrise to sunset, and charges no entry fee.
